Passing of Dr. Paul Saperstein

From the HSC Office of the President

HSC Family,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Dr. Paul Saperstein, a remarkable TCOM faculty member. Dr. Paul Saperstein was one of TCOM’s earliest faculty members, joining in the 1970s. Dr. Saperstein, a U.S. Navy veteran, worked in private practice in Kansas City before moving to Fort Worth and joining HSC.

Dr. Saperstein practiced osteopathic medicine for 55 years before retiring. His passion and dedication to HSC and educating future health care providers was evident, even upon retiring Dr. Saperstein continued to teach TCOM students on a part-time basis until 2019.

While Dr. Saperstein will be missed, his legacy will live on. Dr. Saperstein founded the Seminary Clinic in Fort Worth and was one of the founding members of the “Friends of TCOM.” Always looking to find ways to better our community, Dr. Saperstein helped organize the HOME Clinic, where TCOM students would provide medical screenings to unsheltered individuals twice a month.

Beloved by his patients, students, and colleagues, Dr. Saperstein was named TCOM Clinical Faculty of the Year (Teacher of the Year). An incredibly generous individual who always put students first, Dr. Saperstein established the Phillip P. Saperstein, DO, Award for Outstanding Family Practice Resident in the Family Practice Residency Program at HSC.

We will miss Dr. Saperstein but know the impact he had on our campus and community will continue to positively impact the lives of others. I know I will personally miss my many conversations with Dr. Saperstein, from the time I was a TCOM student to serving as the HSC President.

Please join me in sending thoughts and prayers to Dr. Saperstein’s family and friends.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael R. Williams
President
