The seminar is entitled “Heavy metal-induced retinopathy protected by heavy lipids “.
Dr. Dunaief’s distinguished career began with an MD/PhD from Columbia University, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Wilmer Eye Institute/Johns Hopkins Hospital. He further honed his expertise through a medical retinal fellowship at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, where he has been a faculty member since 2000. His laboratory’s research has been pivotal in understanding the pathogenesis of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), focusing particularly on the role of oxidative stress.
With over 125 published papers, continuous funding from NIH R01 grants, and the recipient of the prestigious ARVO Cogan Award, Dr. Dunaief’s contributions to ophthalmology are substantial. Furthermore, his leadership as Chair of the NIH PED2 study section from 2021 to 2023 underscores his commitment to advancing the field.
This seminar will highlight insights into the mechanisms of heavy metal-induced retinopathy and the protective roles of heavy lipids. It represents a unique opportunity for faculty, students, and staff interested in the latest advancements in ophthalmology and AMD pathogenesis.
