We are pleased to announce that Winston Whei Yang Kao, Ph.D., will present a seminar as part of the North Texas Research Institute (NTERI) Interdisciplinary Seminar Series (ISS).
Date: Thursday, January 18, 2024
Time: 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
Location: IREB 260
The seminar is entitled ” Matricellular Functions of Lumican in Corneal Homeostasis and Wound Healing“.
Winston W-Y Kao, Ph.D., is an Emeritus, Ben & Louise Tate Professor at the Ophthalmology Department at the College of Medicine University of Cincinnati. The goal of Dr. Kao’s research is to better understand diseases that cause blindness—his lab studies the structure-function relationships of eye-specific genes, which are vital for maintaining vision. Two research projects that are mutually supportive are 1). Regulation of Cornea-specific K12 keratin gene expression, and 2). Corneal wound healing. K12 keratin, exclusively expressed by corneal epithelial cells, is vital for normal corneal functions and also plays an important role in corneal wound healing. Dr. Kao’s lab is using the transgenic approach to examine the role of cytokines, receptors and/or other gene products in corneal wound healing and development.
