The seminar is entitled “Oxidative stress: a common mechanism and therapeutic target in optic neuropathies“.
Tonia S. Rex, Ph.D., is the Marlene and Spencer Hays Director for translational vision research, professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and associate vice chair for research at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. Dr. Rex is also the co-director of the Gene and Protein Analysis Module at the Vanderbilt Vision Research Center (VVRC) and a member of the VVRC T32.
Dr. Rex’s laboratory investigates the molecular mechanism of vision loss in traumatic brain injury models and models of glaucoma to develop and test rational therapies. She led a recent NEI U24 Audacious Goals grant to optimize retinal ganglion cell replacement therapy in a human-relevant species. Dr. Rex leads Department of Defense-funded clinical studies directed at diagnosing mild TBI, particularly the associated visual and auditory dysfunction.
