National College Health Assessment Survey

From the Office of Care and Civility:

As part of the Drug Free Schools and Community Act, we are required to provide Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Programs, and show proof of the effectiveness of those programs, for all students, faculty and staff.

This year we are implementing a biennial survey that will provide data on health behaviors specific to our campus population. On November 2nd, all HSC students will be invited to participate in the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) sponsored and distributed by the American College Health Association (ACHA). This survey is designed to assess student health behaviors in order to provide meaningful services and programming for HSC students and will also allow HSC to develop prevention programs targeted toward the HSC educational and environmental needs.

The NCHA-Web is completed online and will take 20-30 minutes. Student participation is critical in shaping services and programming at HSC, and we are excited to announce that the first 365 students who complete the survey will be randomly selected to receive a $10 Amazon gift card. The survey will open on November 2 and close on November 16. Results will be delivered to the Division of Student Affairs & Academic Affairs by the end of December 2020 and will be distributed as necessary for review and discussion regarding future programming initiatives.

We recognize and respect that the NCHA survey covers sensitive content, and there may be some personal discomfort with the content of certain questions. For example, there are questions regarding illegal substance use, interpersonal violence, and sexual behavior. As you work with students, please remind them that if they would like to talk with someone about issues addressed in the survey, they may contact the HSC Care Team at 817-735-2740 or CareTeam@unthsc.edu.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out to Alex Fernandez, Student Services Coordinator of the Office of Care and Civility at Alex.Fernandez@unthsc.edu. We look forward to collaborating on the student assessment as part of a larger initiative to bring additional and relevant health and prevention programs to the HSC.
