MiHERO PhD Scholars Program Texas Minority Health, Education, Research, and Outreach (Texas MiHERO)

Program Description:
Graduate students admitted in to PhD programs in biomedical sciences (GSBS), public health (SPH), pharmacy (SCOP) and dual (DO/PhD) degree in medicine (TCOM) meeting the criteria mentioned below will be supported for 2 years. Under this MiHERO scholars’ program, 2 new students will be recruited this year.
Along with research and required course work, MiHERO PhD scholars will have the opportunity to participate in workshops/training programs on inter-professional education, skills for success, health disparities and research presentations and publications.

Application Process:
Applications will be solicited from the eligible candidates. Application deadline is October 6th, 2021. Program committee reviews the applications and the selected candidates will be notified in October 2021.

Selection Criteria:
• Individuals from groups underrepresented in health professional programs (racial/ethnic groups, disabilities, disadvantaged backgrounds).
Or
• Individuals with demonstrated interest in diversity and health disparity research.
• Commitment to careers in basic, translational, clinical and community-based approaches to solving health disparities.

Benefits:
• Stipend for up to 2 years.
