MIGS Dept Seminar Speaker Dr. Colleen Fitzpatrick presents – Genetic Genealogy and the Revolution in Human Identification-LIB 110 – Monday, Dec. 9, 2019 – 12:00 – 1:00

The past years have seen a revolution in human identification thanks to genetic genealogy. Unlike CODIS, for the successful use of a genealogical database it is not necessary for the DNA of a John Doe, nor the DNA of his immediate family member, to have been entered into the system. This identification of even distant relatives using the genealogical identification process has proven to be an important source of investigative intelligence, and the reason for much of its success. This talk will discuss how the revolution came about, how the technology is being used, and the challenges that are emerging as the more tractable and less time-consuming cases are solved.
