Library renovations continue to second phase

Renovations to the Gibson D. Lewis Library continue and are moving on to the next phase. The complete renovation project will occur in phases until early summer 2025. This is part of HSC’s overall capital improvement plan to address ongoing needs for space expansion and modernization, including the incorporation of emerging technology. This also will ensure the space meets the needs of students now and into the future.

As the first-floor lower lobby renovations wrap up, work will begin on the second floor on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Visitors to the library will see furniture being removed and may hear some louder sounds.

Services relocated

With this phase of the renovation, the following services have been moved:

  • The library lockers (pick up library items on hold) are moving to LIB-225.
  • The main floor printer will be relocated to the middle floor near the women’s restroom.
  • The book drop box has been relocated to the middle floor near the University Archives (LIB-310).
  • The Seed Library (free seeds for the HSC community) has been relocated to LIB-222.

Main entrance moved

Tentatively scheduled for mid-October, the main entrance to the library will relocate to a newly constructed entrance near the building’s south entrance (doors facing RES & EAD).

Please look for directional signs to help point the way as library areas are closed and new entrances are created.

Once the main entrance to the lobby and the library is closed, the most in-demand library items (including anatomical models, manipulation tables and some chargers) will be available using the self-checkout kiosk temporarily relocated to LIB-225.

Study spaces

During the renovation, study space in the library will remain available. However, additional campus locations have been designated to continue fostering collaborative and quiet study spaces for students. As part of our shared UNT System Values, HSC team members should treat all shared spaces with respect to promote a pleasant experience for everyone using them. Custodial services schedules have been updated to include the adjusted study space schedules.

Reservations are not needed during the designated times.
