JPS and UNTHSC Agree to New Clinical and Educational Relationship

This email was sent from the Office of the President on July 18:

Dear UNTHSC Team,

I am writing to announce that UNT Health Science Center and JPS Health Network have agreed to a comprehensive clinical, teaching and research partnership that plays to the strengths of two of Fort Worth’s key health care institutions.

Beginning Sept. 1, 2016, JPS’s Acclaim Physician Group will begin assuming all clinical care through the JPS system – a transition that will end the Health Science Center’s responsibility for the hospital’s women’s health, behavioral medicine, orthopedic and community medicine practices.

UNTHSC will begin winding down clinical operations at JPS, eliminating clinical and clinical-support positions in those areas. Those employees will have the opportunity to apply at Acclaim, which has an interest in maintaining current levels of service. Acclaim is responsible for filling those positions. UNTHSC will not have a role in hiring.

UNTHSC is working with JPS and Acclaim to schedule meetings with affected employees to discuss opportunities with Acclaim. Representatives from UNTHSC Human Resources also will attend those meetings to answer questions related to ending employment with UNTHSC.

The Health Science Center will continue to provide care through the Department of Family Medicine and the Center for Geriatrics, along with limited specialty services.

Acclaim will become a major teaching and research partner for the Health Science Center. Acclaim physicians will supervise UNTHSC students on clinical rotations and have the opportunity to serve as members of the Health Science Center’s teaching faculty.

The changes allow UNTHSC to concentrate on its primary academic missions of education and research, while JPS will continue to provide outstanding clinical care to the Tarrant County community. It’s expected to strengthen a partnership between JPS and UNTHSC centered on improving the health of Tarrant County residents.

JPS and UNTHSC will continue working together on other projects, including supporting the Health Science Center’s advancements in geriatric medicine and partnering on the new Institute for Patient Safety.

Thank you,

Dr. Michael R. Williams

President
