More than one billion people worldwide live with disabilities and impairments, and at HSC, we want to educate and spark curiosity in everyone to learn and think about digital access and inclusion. That’s why the Division of Academic Innovation (DAI) is hosting the annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 1, in the MET lobby. Digital accessibility refers to the ability of people with disabilities and impairments to independently consume and interact with digital applications and content without barriers. The Office of Disability Access, North Texas Eye Research Insitute (NTERI), Gibson Lewis Library, and Apple will be a part of the fun with simulations and demonstrations on various disabilities and assistive technologies.
Also, we want your help in these final days of April with UNTHSC earning bragging rights in digital accessibility. The Texas Department of Information Resources has challenged all Texas State agencies and Institutions of Higher Learning to complete short trainings on digital accessibility, hosted by Level Access Academy. The competition began April 1 and ends April 30. The winner with the most completions will get bragging rights as the accessibility champions of Texas.
Please help us win this coveted honor! Register for the accessibility competition at https://forms.office.com/r/fZZGJiP8JP.
