Improved Daily News with fewer repetitive posts coming May 1; attend an info session

In response to your feedback, we are making improvements to Daily News that will reduce repetitive announcements and make it easier to post news items. The improved Daily News will launch on May 1.

Anyone interested is invited to learn more about the improvements at an information session:
• 10 a.m., Thursday, April 25, EAD 406
• 2 p.m., Monday, April 29, EAD 406

Among the changes ….

New capability for those who post announcements to “tag” them according to the “audience” the information is intended for:
• Faculty
• Staff
• Students
• Any combination of the above

New capability for readers to “filter” and view all information in Daily News according to these “audience” tags. Readers may choose to view news for only one of these audiences, for all of them or for any combination.

Because of this new “tagging” and “filtering” capability, these audience-related categories will be removed from Daily News:
• Employee News
• Faculty News
• Student News
In addition, these under-used categories will be removed:
• Campus Publications
• New Faculty/Staff

These categories will remain (all now based on the announcement’s topic):
• Service Interruptions
• Campus Announcements
• Grand Rounds and Academic Seminars
• Grants and Funding Opportunities
• Research Studies/Clinical Trials
• Training Opportunities
• Fitness and Wellness
• Meals on Campus

When they open the new Daily News email, readers will be able to see all the
announcements under the appropriate topic, and they will be able to selectively view news according to their preferred audience.

This eliminates the need to post announcements in more than one category (easier for those who post) and eliminates repetitive posts (easier for the reader).
