This seminar will address fundamental questions in kidney development, such as how do renal tubules and glomeruli develop, and what is the role of cellular adhesion complexes in these processes? The Marciano laboratory has focused on how mesenchymal nephron progenitor cells undergo morphological changes to form a polarized epithelial tubule that contains a continuous, central lumen. Her laboratory has uncovered the role of F-actin binding protein, Afadin, in tubulogenesis. Dr. Marciano will also present her research on the role of cell-matrix interaction in glomerular development.
