HSC receives gold standard recognition for tobacco-free policies

In another sign of HSC’s commitment to whole health and our values, the University was proud to recently be added to the American Non-Smokers’ Rights Council list of smokefree and tobacco free universities. The designation is considered the gold standard for tobacco-free policies.

A trailblazer in smoke-free environments, HSC implemented a no-smoking policy in 1987 and continued to enhance and strengthen the policy in the decades that followed.

Tobacco-free policies are a common-sense public health strategy to protect the health and safety of all HSC team members and to create a supportive learning and working environment. The importance of such measures has grown in light of evidence of a strong association between smoking and vaping and being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Maintaining and complying with reasonable public health policies reflects HSC values as an institution, and our dedication to protecting health and safety and fostering and inclusive environment.
