HSC Health Distribution of 3rd Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine for Immunocompromised Patients

HSC Faculty, Staff & Students:

Since January 2021, HSC Health has been working diligently to provide our patients, faculty, staff and students with access to COVID-19 vaccines. These vaccines continue to be the safest, most effective way to reduce your risk of infection from COVID-19 as well as reduce the risk of severe symptoms, hospitalization and death should you contract COVID-19.

This week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized a 3rd dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer- BioNTech and Moderna) for certain people with weakened immune systems. This dose is recommended to maximize efficacy of immunity against COVID-19. Research has shown that people with weakened immune systems may not have developed a full immune response following the two-dose series. Some examples include:

  • Organ or stem-cell transplant
  • Do not have a spleen
  • In renal failure and are on dialysis
  • Cancer or cancer treatment
  • Other conditions that reduce the immune system response

HSC Health will begin providing 3rd dose for immunocompromised people beginning Wednesday, September 1, by appointment. If you qualify for a 3rd dose and would like to receive it on the HSC campus, you can call Priority Care at 817-735-2273 or Student Health at 817-735-5051. Please know you did not have to receive your first two doses at HSC Health.

At HSC Health, we are committed to keeping our community safe. We will continue to offer vaccines for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated patients, faculty, staff and students.
