The purpose of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s Health Disparities in PH Research Award is to support research that addresses early diagnosis, education and improving clinical outcomes and treatments for people with pulmonary hypertension affected by health inequities. Proposals should identify and address factors that affect health inequities in vulnerable populations and clinical subsets of patients, or propose solutions to address areas of health disparities in PH.
Grant amount: Up to $50,000 per year.
Grant term: Up to two years.
Research
Research projects may be basic, translational, or clinical studies addressing health disparities in adult and pediatric PH. Areas of focus include:
- Identifying societal or economic factors impacting PH patients’ health.
- Understanding variations in incidence, prevalence, care management and outcomes between different PH patient populations due to health disparities.
- Addressing individual behavioral factors contributing to PH.
- Overcoming challenges in training and educational opportunities to expand the diversity of healthcare providers in PH care centers.
- Tackling inequities in healthcare access, both within the U.S. and globally.
- Leveraging PH biorepositories or registries to better understand and address health disparities influenced by social determinants.
