Employees: UNTHSC Fitness Center fees to increase

Vice President Thomas Moorman sent this email to employees on June 24, 2016:

Dear UNTHSC Employees –

The Division of Student Affairs would like to thank those of you who have participated in the Office of Health Promotion’s prior programs and events. We are always striving to meet your health and fitness needs with each coming year.

Historically, the fitness center has been subsidized by the Division of Student Affairs budget. These dollars have allowed the fitness center to staff the building, purchase new equipment, repair equipment, offer group fitness classes and more. However, the fitness center, as an auxiliary enterprise, is striving to become a self-sustaining entity within the Division of Student Affairs.

Therefore, in an effort to maintain the same level of service currently offered, we will be increasing our fitness center fee from $10.00 per month to $20.00 per month effective September 1, 2016. We will offer open enrollment throughout the month of September that will allow employees to sign up for a 1 year membership up front at a discounted rate of $200.00. The discounted rate will only apply to employees who sign up in September. Employees will still have the option to do a payroll deduction (with a minimum 3 month commitment) or pay for a membership in increments of 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or 1 year with cash or credit card anytime throughout the year at a rate of $20.00 per month. There is no payroll deduction for the once per year, reduced payment option in September. Members who are currently on payroll will be required to submit a new payroll deduction form.

We hope you will understand the necessity of this change. If you have any questions please contact the Office of Health Promotion at healthpromotion@unthsc.edu or 817-735-2209. We look forward to helping you stay committed to your health and fitness goals.

Sincerely,

Thomas Moorman, Ed.D.
