Don’t Lose Vacation Time Because You Didn’t Use It

UNT World Faculty and Staff:

The end-of-summer deadline is approaching for when any excess vacation time will lapse and convert to sick time if carried into fiscal year 2022. Now’s the time to review your vacation balance and possibly plan for a little rest and relaxation.

Vacation hours exceeding the maximum carry-forward allowance for fiscal year 2021 will need to be used by Aug. 31. Don’t know your maximum carry-forward allowance? No problem.

It’s determined by your length of service and is easily found in the Vacation Leave chart on the UNT System HR Vacation web page. For example, a full-time employee with at least two years of service but less than five years has an “Allowable Carryover” of 244 hours. Now, to check your vacation balance, log into the revamped Employee Portal (my.untsystem.edu):

• Once logged in, you’ll land on the “Employee Self Service” home page
• Click the “Time” tile
• Click the “Leave/Comp Time” tile
• Click “Vacation” tile
• Match your vacation balance with your “Allowable Carryover” in the Vacation Leave chart to determine if you have excess vacation time.

Excess vacation time will lapse and convert to sick time on Sept. 4. To avoid this, all leave requests must be submitted and approved no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.
