Introduction to Literature Searching is designed to walk students through the process of conducting an in-depth literature search, from developing a search question to saving your search results using EndNote. The course is organized into five modules that can be completed in sequence, or assigned separately:
1. Developing a Well-Constructed Research Question: Evidence Based Practice & Clinical Questions
2. Developing a Well-Constructed Research Question: Non-Clinical Questions
3. Conducting a Literature Search
4. Evaluating Search Results
5. Citation Management Using EndNote
The course takes approximately 2 to 4 hours to complete. We recommend assigning the course as homework over several class sessions, but it is entirely up to you how you would like to incorporate it into your curriculum. Each module contains a short assignment which librarians can “grade” and return to your students with feedback.
There is no limit to the number of students, faculty and staff that can be taking the course at the same time. It is entirely self-paced and can be assigned at any time throughout the semester.
In order to enroll yourself or your students, simply email the library at AskALibrarian@unthsc.edu. We will need a list of names and EUIDs for all the participants in order to add them as students in the course. This information will be kept entirely confidential and will only be used by the Center for Innovative Learning (CIL) to enroll students.
