Subject: COVID-19 Vaccine Availability for HSC Students, Faculty and Staff

HSC Health is pleased to have received a transfer of 500 Moderna COVID-19 vaccines from Tarrant County. We will have 350 vaccines available for HSC students, faculty and staff and the remaining 150 will be distributed to our HSC Health patients. Following DSHS guidance, all adults are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. HSC Health will host multiple vaccine clinics the week of April 12 in HSC Health Select Services on the 3rd floor of the Health Pavilion.

Vaccines will be allocated first come, first-served based on scheduled appointments. HSC students and employees can self-schedule your appointment by visiting the Patient Care page on Insite. Please see below for HSC Health Select Services COVID Vaccine Information, instructions and vaccine FAQs.

Being mindful of our night-shift team members, we will host a dedicated afternoon clinic to ensure access with Spanish-speaking team members available onsite to answer questions, administer the vaccine, etc. To register for the Bilingual Vaccine Clinic, please call 817.735.2273.

Follow-up appointments for the second vaccination will be scheduled while employees are on-site to receive their first vaccination.

HSC Health will again partner with SaferCare Texas and students from TCOM, School of Health Professions and UNT System College of Pharmacy to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

For questions or more information, please contact Kathryn Lytton, HSC Health Communications & Provider Relations Manager, at Kathryn.Lytton@unthsc.edu.

Vaccine FAQs

Am I required to get a COVID-19 vaccine?
While highly recommended, COVID-19 vaccine is not mandatory for HSC students, faculty or staff.

Should I receive the vaccine if I’ve already had COVID-19?
Due to the fact that COVID-19 re-infection is possible, people who have had COVID-19 should not be excluded from receiving the vaccine. However, if you currently have COVID-19, you should wait to be vaccinated until your illness has resolved and you can discontinue isolation.

Can a COVID-19 vaccine make me sick with COVID-19?
No. None of the COVID-19 vaccines contain the live virus that causes COVID-19 so a COVID-19 vaccine cannot make you sick with COVID-19.

What should I expect after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine?
You may have some side effects, which are normal signs that your body is building a immunity response. Common side effects include pain or swelling in the arm you received your vaccine, or fever, chills, tiredness or headache.

If you have pain or discomfort, talk to your doctor about taking a pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

What is the benefit of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine?
COVID-19 can have serious, sometimes deadly complications, and there is no way to know how it will affect you. COVID-19 is also highly contagious, and could be spread to friends, family and others around you if you get sick.

Clinical trials show the COVID-19 vaccine to be highly effective, with the Moderna vaccine 94.1% effective at preventing lab-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people who received two doses who had no evidence of being previously infected.
