Chancellor Roe launches search for UNT System Chief Diversity Officer

From the UNT System Office of the Chancellor

UNT World Faculty & Staff:

The University of North Texas System is committed to an inclusive culture that celebrates our many differences and finds authentic ways to come together and affirm the value of our diverse students, faculty and staff.

We have a rich legacy that is built on the philosophy that higher education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of race, gender identity/expression, age, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status or diverse perspectives. With two Minority Serving Institutions and a system-wide student body that is “minority-majority,” the UNT System’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion remains steadfast.

With that in mind, we have launched a national search for a dedicated Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) who will report directly to me as part of our critical efforts to advance our culture of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) as part of the core values that drive UNT World. This important opening has been posted to our UNT System job site for applicants, and our search committee will work with me to fill the position this spring.

The Chief Diversity Officer is a thought leader and subject-matter expert who will work collaboratively with the Chancellor and Presidents, existing campus and system DE&I advisory groups, as well as with campus HR leaders, to refine and accelerate this important work. The CDO will lead the development of data-driven strategic roadmaps and initiatives that engage UNT World’s constituencies, strengthen relationships with our campuses and surrounding communities, and leverage partnerships to realize mutual benefit and impact.

The CDO will communicate these system-wide strategic initiatives, measures of success, and progress toward DE&I to the UNT System Board of Regents and all levels of system and campus leadership.

As part of this search, we will engage broadly with our diverse campus communities, including scholars who study communities of color and campus diversity leaders. The opportunity to hire a dedicated leader in diversity, equity and inclusion will strengthen the UNT System and our campuses as we continue to grow with our ever-diversifying state and region.

I look forward to continuing open conversations on diversity, equity and inclusion as we move forward.

Thank you for your support.

Lesa Roe
Chancellor
