Career Readiness Month: Week 4! (Theme: Leadership)

Greetings HSC students! Time to celebrate Week 4 of “Career Readiness Month,” during which we will spotlight the Career Readiness Skill of Leadership. Leadership is at the core at everything we do, and yet, sometimes it is also difficult to succinctly define as it has many layers. There are many aspects of leadership, and in essence, even if we can’t always articulate it gracefully, we definitely “know it when we see it.”

The HSC defines Leadership through four major tenets as follows:
• Demonstrates personal accountability and effective work habits, e.g., punctuality, working productively with others, and time workload management, and understands the impact of non-verbal communication on professional work image.
• Strong commitment to integrity and ethical behavior, acts responsibly with the interests of the larger community in mind, and is able to learn from his/her mistakes.
• Leverages the strengths of others to achieve common goals and use interpersonal skills to coach and develop others.
• Able to assess and manage his/her emotions and those of others, use empathetic skills to guide and motivate, and organize, prioritize, and delegate work.

As in the other Career Readiness skills, now more than ever demonstrating the ability to lead in times of crisis, or even navigating everyday principled decision-making for the greater good is how success will be appraised from all angles. To lead or not to lead, that is the question—and the answer can determine the path of your career.

Please join us again this week for two virtual events on the following days to “Level Up” your career in the name of Leadership!
