Cardiovascular Considerations for Travel to the Moon and Mars

Pooneh Bagher, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Texas A&M, to present Seminar:  “Cardiovascular Considerations for Travel to the Moon and Mars”.   February 21, 2020, LIB 110 (Mini Auditorium), 11-12.   The Bagher Lab examines how arterioles function (vasoconstrict and vasodilate) under physiological conditions, in various disease states, and following exposure to extreme environments. Recently the Bagher Lab has utilized mice as a model of cardiovascular changes that occur in astronauts following exposure to low Earth orbit (LEO) onboard the International Space Station (ISS). This seminar will focus on how exposure to the space environment on the ISS influences coronary artery function and what implications that may have for long duration missions. The data will be put in context of cardiovascular considerations for future exploratory deep space missions to the Moon and Mars.
