Bivalent Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines no longer authorized

On September 11, 2023, the FDA approved and authorized the emergency use of “new booster” COVID-19 vaccines that target current circulating variants, providing better protection against the serious effects of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death.

The Bivalent Moderna and Pfizer formulations that have been administered at HSC Health are no longer authorized for use and will not be administered. The vaccines have been removed from clinic refrigerators, effective today, 9/13/23.

The updated vaccines have been preordered and HSC Health leadership will send out a notification once they’ve been received in the clinics.

An updated Novavax vaccine has not been approved thus far. Current formulations may be used until further notice.
