“Inflammation, autoantibodies and oxidative stress; mediators of hypertension in response to placental ischemia”

Dr. Babbette LaMarca is a Professor of Pharmacology, Physiology and OB/GYN and the Thesis Director for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship program. Her translational research program investigates the role of inflammation in causing increased blood pressure and reduced fetal weight in women with preeclampsia, new onset hypertension during pregnancy. Dr LaMarca investigates a role for activated immune cells to lead to chronic production of autoantibodies and oxidative stress as mediators of hypertension in preeclamptic patients as well as rodent models of preeclampsia.
