Maya McmillianThe College of Public Health welcomes Maya McMillian, MEd, to the team to assume the position of Communications Manager. Maya will lead special projects across the college and manage communications via social media platforms, website content and any HSC collaborative efforts.

Maya earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications at the height of the COVID pandemic from The University of Texas at San Antonio. She received her acceptance into the Higher Education Master’s program at the University of North Texas shortly after the pandemic and the entire world shut down. At a time where employment was uncertain for recent graduates, Maya was guaranteed steady employment through her program which contributed greatly to her career today. She then earned her master’s degree in Higher Education in May 2022 where she could finally walk the stage and celebrate in-person with her loved ones.

Maya has been a part of the UNT System for the past 4.5 years where she’s served in a variety of sectors including student conduct, orientation/transition programs, career services, and more recently, health policy here at UNTHSC in the Division of Research and Innovation. She previously served as a Senior Communications Specialist in the Center for Health Policy where she co-led the promotions for various telementoring models to improve health outcomes in the community.

Although the Dallas-Fort Worth region is currently home for Maya, she was based in Houston, Texas where she was born and has lived for a majority of her life.

Through this promotion at UNTHSC, Maya is most excited to continue her career in communications and contribute to both the expansion and global recognition of the College of Public Health. “Maya brings with her a significant breadth and depth of experience to her position, which ranges from marketing to student affairs to instruction and more recently, healthcare,” says Dr. Shafik Dharamsi, CPH dean. “Our current students and graduates are addressing public health challenges at the forefront to create change in their communities, and Maya understands these community-centered approaches which make her a valuable addition to the CPH team.”
