Admission Requirements
Congratulations on taking the first step toward graduate school! We are excited that you are considering our programs here at the University of North Texas Health Science Center College of Public Health. Take a moment to review the admission requirements for all of our programs. Master of Public Health
UNTHSC conducts holistic application reviews. A completed bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required. No specific degree or prerequisite coursework is required. Furthermore, there are no specific score requirements for GPA or GRE scores.
Applications are reviewed once they have been completed and verified by SOPHAS. UNTHSC does not offer conditional or provisional admission. All items must be received in order for an application to be reviewed and a decision rendered.
To Apply:
- Create an account in SOPHAS online application portal.
In addition to the SOPHAS required documentation of official U.S./Canadian transcripts and C.V./Resume, please provide the following additional documentation with your application.
- Three (3) Short Answer Questions. These questions provide the opportunity for you to describe your academic, humanistic, and diverse experiences and how they inform and impact your school/career plans.
- Three (3) Letters of Recommendation. Ideal sources include academic professors, academic advisors and employment/internship supervisors. Physician shadowing letters are not recommended. Letters from friend or relative are never appropriate.
- World Education Service (WES) ICAP. Course-by-Course evaluation of academic records from institutions outside the U.S. and English-speaking Canada (if applicable).
- The GRE exam is no longer required for MPH programs.
MPH Public Health Leadership Online
UNTHSC conducts holistic application reviews. A completed bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required. No specific degree or prerequisite coursework is required. Furthermore, there are no specific score requirements for GPA or GRE scores. Applications are reviewed once they have been completed and verified by SOPHAS. UNTHSC does not offer conditional or provisional admission. All items must be received in order for an application to be reviewed and a decision rendered.

Master of Health Administration (MHA)
UNTHSC conducts holistic application reviews. A completed bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required. No specific degree or prerequisite coursework is required. Furthermore, there are no specific score requirements for GPA or GRE scores.

Master of Health Administration (MHA) Online
UNTHSC conducts holistic application reviews. A completed bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required. No specific degree or prerequisite coursework is required. Applicants to the MHA Online program must have at least two (2) years of relevant healthcare management or health administration experience. Applicants must also be gainfully employed within the field.
Furthermore, there are no specific score requirements for GPA or GRE scores. Applications are reviewed once they have been completed and verified by SOPHAS. UNTHSC does not offer conditional or provisional admission. All items must be received in order for an application to be reviewed and a decision rendered.

Master of Science (M.S.) in Public Health Sciences
UNTHSC conducts holistic application reviews. A completed bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required. No specific degree or prerequisite coursework is required. Furthermore, there are no specific score requirements for GPA or GRE scores.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Sciences
UNTHSC conducts holistic application reviews. A completed bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required. No specific degree or prerequisite coursework is required. A GPA minimum of 3.2 is required. Although a minimum GPA has been established, admission to the program is highly competitive.
Applications are reviewed once they have been completed and verified by SOPHAS. UNTHSC does not offer conditional or provisional admission. All items must be received in order for an application to be reviewed and a decision rendered.

- Statement of Purpose and Objectives (personal statement) describing your interest in the field of study (degree and concentration) to which you are applying, your career goals, how the program will help you reach those goals and why you chose the UNTHSC School of Public Health to pursue your graduate education.
- Three (3) Letters of Recommendation. Ideal sources include academic professors, advisors, and professional supervisors.
- Writing Sample or Publication (optional)
- World Education Service (WES) ICAP. Course-by-Course evaluation of academic records from institutions outside the U.S. and English-speaking Canada (if applicable).
- The GRE exam is no longer required for PhD programs.
Graduate Certificate and Non-Degree Students
UNTHSC conducts holistic application reviews. A completed bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required. No minimum GPA or test score is required for consideration. No specific undergraduate courses are required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized institution. Successful students have at minimum a 2.5 GPA or higher in prior academic coursework.
- Official transcripts from all colleges & universities attended
- Create an account and apply via the SOPHAS Express online application portal. This process will include personal information and academic history
Submit the following to SOPHAS Express:

- Unofficial transcripts. Transcripts from all schools attended. Even schools that didn’t ultimately award a degree, all are required.
Admitted students will be required to submit official transcripts to UNTHSC prior to enrolling in classes.
- Current Resume or Curriculum Vitae. Your resume should reflect your full history including volunteer activities, clubs, research, conference presentations and relevant work experience.
- $55 application fee due to SOPHAS Express.

International Applicants
In addition to the admission requirements above, international applicants must also meet additional requirements. International applicants must demonstrate satisfactory proficiency in oral and written English before being granted admission. Minimum TOEFL exam requirements: internet-based = 85. The TOEFL is waived if the applicant has earned a high school diploma, or a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution within the United States or Canada.

IELTS scores are also accepted and must be released to SOPHAS/HAMPCAS.
A WES ICAP must be submitted to the application service (not HSC) for any academic records from institutions outside the U.S. and English-speaking Canada. NOTE: UNTHSC College of Public Health does not sponsor student visas for international students for the online, non-degree or certificate programs.
