Education & Experience:
I completed a PhD program in Public Health Sciences at the UNT Health Science Center, as well as a BA in Economics and MPH at the University of Florida. Prior to joining the College of Public Health as a faculty in 2021, I was a faculty member at George Mason University.

Teaching Areas & Public Health Interests:
My public health interests are alcohol and cannabis prevention and control. I have taught many courses on public health research methods, health behavior theories, applied statistics, scientific writing, design and evaluation of preventive interventions, injury and violence prevention, and tobacco prevention and control. I strive to develop interactive lessons that help students apply course content to address real-world problems.

Professional Activities & Awards:
I have helped numerous community organizations advocate for laws that help reduce alcohol and cannabis use and related harms in their communities. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Health Behavior (AAHB) and received the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America (CADCA)’s 2025 Advocate of the Year award.

Scholarly Interests:
I study the intoxicating substances commonly used by young people from a marketing and public health perspective to help guide laws that prevent their use. My work, including 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts, has helped influence the development of laws and regulations from the local- to federal-levels. My research has also been cited in reports by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and World Health Organization (WHO), as well as featured by BBC, CNN, CBS, NBC, NPR, Washington Post, and The New York Times. I am one of the nation’s leading public health experts on “supersized” alcopops and derived intoxicating cannabis products (such as delta-8 THC).
