Education & Experience:
Dr. Allen Solenberg brings a unique blend of leadership experience from military healthcare operations and higher education. After serving over two decades in the United States Army and Air Force, where he retired as a senior healthcare executive, he transitioned to full-time academia. He is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Administration & Health Policy at the College of Public Health.
Throughout his military career, Dr. Solenberg held leadership roles at the Defense Health Agency, managing healthcare operations and large-scale infrastructure programs. He also served as an Associate Program Director and faculty member in the Army-Baylor Graduate Program, helping shape the next generation of healthcare leaders through teaching, mentorship, and program development.
He holds a Ph.D. in Health Policy and Management from the University of Kansas Medical Center, an MBA from Aspen University, and a BBA in Health Management from American Intercontinental University.
Teaching Areas & Public Health Interests:
Dr. Solenberg teaches healthcare finance, analytics, policy, strategy, and marketing courses. His teaching style emphasizes real-world application, student engagement, and leadership development. He is especially interested in helping students connect classroom learning with meaningful impact in healthcare settings.
His public health interests include preventive care, healthcare equity, disability and disparities research, and ethical healthcare marketing. He is passionate about addressing gaps in care for underserved populations and advancing strategies to improve access and quality.
Professional Activities & Awards:
Dr. Solenberg is a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional with the HFMA and a CAHME Fellow, reflecting his deep commitment to academic and operational excellence. He has served in various academic leadership roles, including committee work in curriculum development, faculty advancement, and accreditation. His past teams have earned national recognition, and he received the Air Force Institute of Technology’s competitive Ph.D. scholarship.
He also contributes as a peer reviewer for academic journals and remains active in professional associations focused on healthcare management and policy.
Scholarly Interests:
Dr. Solenberg’s research explores health policy, patient safety, quality improvement, and access to care, particularly for people with disabilities. His published work includes a qualitative study on barriers to cancer screening for individuals with spinal cord injuries. He continues to develop research that bridges systems-level healthcare delivery with issues of equity, ethics, and innovation.
