Dr. Ali Dadpay
Associate Professor, Health Administration & Health Policy
Education & Experience:
I am an associate professor of economics and finance at the HSC College of Public Health. I always look forward to advancing my knowledge of quantitative analysis and data modeling. I completed my doctoral degree in economics focusing on econometrics and industrial organization at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I have expertise in training professionals and graduate students on predictive analytics and time series forecasting in R and Python, as evidenced by mentoring 2,400 students and dozens of professionals and graduate students. I have a solid ability to effectively communicate and engage with both technical and non-technical audiences, as demonstrated by 24 presentations, including two at the Financial Management Association Annual Meeting, and three executive analytical briefs, including two at the Center for Energy Studies-Japan Ministry of Energy and nine invited talks. My research findings have appeared in print in a variety of academic journals, including the Journal of Econometrics, Comparative Economic Studies, Eastern Economic Journal, Applied Economics Quarterly, Australian Economics Papers and the Journal of Air Transport Management. I have served as a research scientist with the State University of New York Research Foundation and as a consultant for Eurasia Foundation. Trained as an electrical engineer at Sharif University of Technology, I received my master’s in economics from Virginia Tech. I contribute regularly to media outlets such as Al-Monitor.com.
Teaching Areas & Public Health Interests:
I teach Health Economics (HMAP 5308) and Health Finance I & II (HMAP 5306 and HMAP 5326) to HSC MHA students. I have also taught various courses in economics and finance, including a course on the Economics of Entrepreneurship and Innovation for MBA students, industrial organization, labor economics, international financial markets, international economics, and money and banking.
Professional Activities & Awards:
I am an active member of Leadership North Texas and attend regional events regularly. I am also a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), American College of Health Executives, Financial Management Association (FMA), American Society of Health Economists, INFORMS, Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and the American Economic Association.
Scholarly Interests:
My research agenda has mainly focused on competition in multinational markets and how governments utilize public firms to regulate markets and influence prices. I am also interested in duration analysis and survival modeling to understand risk factors and their impact on decision making.
