Dean’s Welcome
Hello and welcome to the College of Public Health (SPH) at UNT Health Science Center!
By deciding to pursue a degree in public health, you have selected a
growing, in-demand field of study with limitless opportunities to make a
difference in today’s world.
I’m sure you know that there is no better time than right now to pursue a
public health career … public health professionals work in a variety of
positions in their local communities, across the nation and around the
world, as epidemiologists, researchers, environmental and behavioral
health scientists, occupational safety professionals, health promoters,
health policy and management leaders, public health preparedness
specialists, professors, teachers, health care workers and more, within
public health departments, governmental agencies, community based
organizations, universities, hospitals, clinics and international/global
health organizations, just to name a few. As you can see, the field of
public health offers a range of challenging, rewarding and interesting
opportunities to fit your specific areas of interest.
Public health is all about keeping people and their communities safe and
healthy, and public health is truly changing the world. At UNT Health
Science Center, you will learn both in the classroom and out in the
field, through internships and practice opportunities that give you
“hands on” experience while you attend classes. Our goal is to give you
the tools you need to become a successful professional in your chosen
public health concentration.
You and your fellow classmates certainly have an exciting challenge
ahead of you as you begin your study and prepare yourself to make a
difference in our world. Let me assure you that all of us here at the
College of Public Health are committed to providing you the best
preparation possible.
Again welcome to the CPH, and my best wishes for a great year.
