Education & Experience:
I am a seasoned healthcare executive, consultant, and academic leader with over 30 years of experience in transformational change, organizational leadership, and policy innovation. As Chair and Assistant Professor of the Department of Health Administration & Health Policy at UNTHSC, I integrate my extensive industry expertise with academic scholarship to prepare future healthcare leaders for the complexities of an evolving healthcare landscape.
My career spans consulting and executive leadership roles across multiple hospitals, health systems, private equity-backed healthcare organizations, and academic medical centers where I have driven large-scale quality, financial, and operational transformation. I have worked for Alvarez & Marsal LLC, Navigant, Inc. (now Guidehouse), Solve Consulting LLC, Premier, Inc., Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, and Presbyterian Healthcare System (now part of Texas Health).
I earned my Master of Health Administration from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and my Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from UNT Denton. Prior to assuming my roles as Department Chair and Assistant Professor, I was an adjunct instructor in CPH for two years.
Teaching Areas & Public Health Interests:
As an academic leader, I drive the advancement of health administration and policy education by overseeing curriculum development, faculty mentorship, accreditation standards, and student success initiatives. My teaching and program leadership emphasize strategic decision-making, healthcare finance, public health leadership, and policy innovation: ensuring that students develop the critical skills needed to navigate and transform the healthcare landscape. Committed to bridging academia and industry, I integrate real-world applications into education, equipping future healthcare leaders with the expertise to drive meaningful change and shape the future of healthcare administration and policy. I have maintained an active appointment in the Department of Health Administration & Health Policy at UNTHSC since 2022, and I taught classes in strategic management & marketing and healthcare finance.
Professional Activities & Awards:
I am a member of both the Board of Directors and the Education Committee for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) North Texas Chapter and am also a member of both the National Department Chairs Council and the National Practitioner Scholar Faculty Forum for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
Scholarly Interests:
My research interests include operationalizing academic research to enhance the healthcare industry, the viability of rural healthcare amidst reducing reimbursement in the U.S., the integration of home-based care models into future delivery models, and the utilization of successful international healthcare models to refine the U.S. healthcare industry.
