Harlan P. Jones received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Microbiology from Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA) in 1993 and his Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Biology from Southern University in 1997. In 2001, Dr. Jones earned his Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (Fort Worth, TX).
Dr. Jones was appointed postdoctoral fellow of the Psychoneuroimmunology and Oncology program at the Emory University Winship Cancer Center and Department of Behavioral Sciences in 2002 under the supervision of Dr. Jay M. Weiss, Professor of Behavioral Sciences, Emory University School of Medicine. In 2004, Dr. Jones accepted a faculty position at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and currently resides as Associate Professor in the Institute of Molecular Medicine. In addition, Dr. Jones holds appointments as Director for the UNTHSC, Center for Diversity and International Programs, Direction of the Training and Education Core of the Texas Center for Health Disparities (TCHD) and Associate Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) Professional Development Core.
Dr. Jones has received several honors and awards, among which are the National Role Model Award (2005), the Graduate Student Association Award for the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Member (2006), Outstanding Graduate Faculty Member (2009), UNTHSC “Rising Star” of the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences (2013), recipient of the INDO-US Teaching Professorship by the American Society of Microbiology (2014), and Master Facilitator of Mentoring and Professional Development for NRMN Mentor Training Core (2014).
