In the next 6 months, we will be launching a new lecture capture tool called Panopto that enables us to easily record lectures and make them available on-demand to our students. Panopto can also be used to live stream distance education courses, to record flipped classroom videos, and to record student assignments. Panopto will be replacing Kaltura as the video tool within Canvas and will also be available in the classroom. See the FAQ at the bottom of this page for common questions.
How will Panopto help you?
Panopto is software that runs on PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Android devices. It allows you to record audio and video, as well as anything you show on your screen or document camera. Once you’ve recorded a lecture or flipped classroom video with Panopto, it’s automatically uploaded to our LMS, where students can access it on any device.
Panopto also includes automated recording software that allows us to schedule your lecture recordings in advance. This helps you ensure that your lectures are being captured properly without the need to interact with the software at the start of each class session.
When will this be available?
Stay tuned! We will be providing more details about Panopto in the weeks ahead.

Q: I have recorded videos via Kaltura. Will I be able to transfer those to Panopto?
A: Yes. There will be a couple of ways to do so. In most cases, we will be using Panoptos video conversion tool that transfers your Kaltura media files into our new Panopto video library so you will not have to do this yourself.
Q: What is Panopto?
Panopto allows for easy recording and reviewing of courses, lectures, and presentations. As a cloud-enabled service, Panopto is designed to simplify the lecture capture process. Recordings in Panopto are viewable on most Web browsers and mobile devices.
Q: Is there any Panopto training?
Yes! The workshop schedule will be posted here soon: CIL Calendar.
Q: Where can I find out the basics of using Panopto?
