Announcing New Center for Health Policy Affiliate Faculty Program Appointments

The Center for Health Policy is thrilled to announce two new members of the Affiliate Faculty Program. This group is made up of two brilliant individuals within the College of Nursing and the College of Public Health. These individuals’ professional research interests include health challenges, cardiovascular disease management, precision health, prevention of underage drinking, drinking and driving, tobacco use initiation, and exposure to secondhand smoke. Both individuals contribute greatly to the goals of the Center for Health Policy.

Dr. Nnaka-CHP Affiliate Faculty

Tonychris Nnaka, PhD, MPH, RN, CPH

Dr. Nnaka is a nurse scientist and an Associate Professor of Nursing. He also serves as the Associate Dean for Research at the HSC College of Nursing. As a researcher specializing in cardiovascular disease management and health disparities, Dr. Nnaka focuses on improving health outcomes and compliance with complex self-management, enhancing preventive health behaviors among minority and rural communities, and increasing access to care through the use of digital health and telementoring approaches. Dr. Nnaka completed his Ph.D. training at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing under the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) T-32 Precision Health Training in Self-Management of Multiple Chronic Conditions and his postdoctoral fellowship at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, under the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) T-32 Science of Co-occurring Disorders program. He currently collaborates with the HSC Center for Health Policy on grants and initiatives aimed at advancing and expanding the use of digital health and telementoring approaches to increase access to care in high-need communities and regions across the United States.

Dr. Rossheim-CHP Affiliate Faculty

Matthew Rossheim, Ph.D., MPH, CPH

Associate Professor, College of Public Health

Dr. Matthew Rossheim is an Associate Professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. His work, including more than 90 peer-reviewed research manuscripts and 100 scientific presentations, has helped influence the development of laws and regulations from the local- to federal-levels. He is one of the nation’s leading public health experts on “supersized” alcopops and derived intoxicating cannabis products (such as delta-8 THC). His related publications illustrate how these harmful intoxicating substances are made appealing and accessible to young people. His research has been cited in reports by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and World Health Organization (WHO), as well as featured by BBC, CNN, CBS, NBC, NPR, Washington Post, and The New York Times.
