Caring for Older Adults Elective

Agenda Web

The goal of the Caring for Older Adults elective rotation is to provide a foundation for systems-based practice in which the health care professional demonstrates awareness and responsiveness to the larger context and system of healthcare, as well as the ability to call effectively on other resources in the system to provide optimal care for older adults.

This four-week online elective rotation is available to third or fourth year medical students. The course provides students with additional experiences in geriatrics so they will learn about different settings of care for older adults and explore special topics to broaden their knowledge and leadership opportunities within the field of geriatrics. Students will explore interconnected aspects of the aging network across the continuum of care, including skilled nursing, assisted living, continuing care retirement communities, hospice/palliative care, and community senior centers. This course will prepare senior medical students to understand and provide care for older adults in a variety of settings.

For the 2023 to 2024 academic year, the Caring for Older Adults elective rotation will only be offered periods 17 (10/23/23 to 11/17/23) and 18 (11/20/23 to 12/15/23). Please contact clinical education to reserve a spot.
