Dr. April R. Wiechmann is a neuropsychologist primarily conducting clinical work through the Geriatric service line. Teaching contributions include year one- and two-year medical students in clinical applications. She also mentors fourth-year medical students during their geriatric rotation and supervises master’s level and fourth-year doctoral students from UNT and UT Southwestern.

A graduate of the consortium program at UNT and UNTHSC in Clinical Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine, Dr. Wiechmann completed her internship at the Central Texas Veterans Administration and conducted her post-doctoral fellowship at UT Southwestern in Neuropsychology. She currently serves on the board for the Fort Worth Area Psychological Association.

Dr. Wiechmann’s primary research interests are in the area of neuropsychology and geriatrics. She is the reward recipient of a federal grant through the National Institutes of Health. Recent publications have focused on neuropsychiatric symptoms and the impact of cholesterol and gender, testosterone and neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia, measures of intellectual stability in dementia, and test development for assessing knowledge and behavior in emergency situations for patients with cognitive impairment.
