Clinical Risk Management

The department is responsible for implementing strategies for best practices, providing educational opportunities and risk management support to clinical providers and staff, and for managing medical malpractice and professional oversight agency claims and litigation.  The Risk Management office works with UNTHSC clinical providers, outside counsel, court personnel, and other healthcare facilities’ staff to investigate and resolve patient concerns.

Donna Christian – Senior Risk Services Manager
Donna Christian, CLAS, joined UNTHSC in 2003 and works with faculty and staff in the clinical Risk Management division. She is primarily responsible for the daily operation of Risk Management services and implementation and administration of its program. Donna attended Dallas Baptist University and Southeastern Paralegal Institute and is a certified paralegal/legal assistant, with a civil litigation specialty. Prior to 2003, she worked with civil litigation defense law firms for twenty-five years in the areas of medical, dental and legal malpractice litigation, pre-trial mediation, workers’ compensation, homeowners’ insurance, contested family, guardianship and probate matters, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy federal court practice and state/federal oversight agency defense.

D.J. Piercefield – Administrative Coordinator, Risk Management
D.J. joined UNTHSC in 2014 as a Senior Administrative Associate. He supports the Risk Management and Credentialing divisions. D.J. earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies with a focus in International Business and minor in Mathematics from Texas Wesleyan University. His professional experience includes working as an educator for 5 years in both public and private schools, as well as 3 years in the private business sector.
