Johnathan Tune | Interim Dean, College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences
Johnathan Tune, PhD, FAHA, FCVS, is the interim dean of the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. In addition to his interim role, Dr. Tune serves as professor and chair of the Department of Physiology and Anatomy. Dr. Tune left HSC for a period to work as a professor and graduate program director of cellular and integrative physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine before returning in 2020 as chair.
His research focuses on the regulation of myocardial oxygen delivery, contractile function and metabolism in health and disease. The primary goal of his laboratory is to elucidate putative mechanisms responsible
for regulating coronary blood flow, identify factors contributing to the progression of coronary disease, and protect the heart from irreversible ischemic damage.
Dr. Tune received his Ph.D. in 1997 in the HSC laboratory of Dr. H. Fred Downey. He performed a post-doctoral fellowship from 1997 to 2000 in the laboratory of Dr. Eric Feigl at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. Dr. Tune has held academic positions at HSC, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans and the Indiana University School of Medicine.
