Desiree K. Ramirez | Executive Vice President, Chief Integrity and Privacy Officer
Desiree Ramirez, CCEP, CHC, is the executive vice president, chief integrity and privacy officer at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. Ms. Ramirez oversees HSC’s integrity-based compliance program, which emphasizes responsibility for ethical behavior and commitment to HSC’s Code of Culture. Since she joined HSC in 2017, She has been responsible for the oversight and management of HSC’s Compliance and Integrity Program, which includes the management of an effective compliance program, the integration of the Integrity Framework and HIPAA Privacy.
Ms. Ramirez advocates for an integrity-based program that emphasizes the active involvement of all stakeholders — leaders, employees and students — to foster meaningful and sustainable cultural change. Central to this philosophy is the creation of a culture where integrity serves as a guiding principle, empowering individuals to make decisions rooted in values. Clearly defined roles and responsibilities are crucial, ensuring that each person understands their contribution to the integrity framework and the collaborative effort required for its success. Together, employees and students work toward a shared objective, actively participating in the integrity process to drive progressive cultural transformation. Additionally, she recognizes the pivotal role of employee and student wellness in influencing ethical behavior and enhancing engagement within the integrity framework.
Ms. Ramirez is a sought-after speaker on compliance issues and is known for her innovative leadership and for emphasizing education, awareness and engagement in her approach to compliance. Prior to joining HSC, she served as the chief compliance and corporate integrity officer for Morehouse School of Medicine. She also served for 10 years as a regulatory compliance manager for the Mayo Clinic and in various compliance, finance and revenue cycle roles at George Washington University Medical Center and Mount Sinai Beth Israel.
Ms. Ramirez was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a master’s degree from Teacher’s College, Columbia University in New York City. She also holds an Executive Certificate in Health Policy, Finance and Law from the American University’s Washington College of Law.
