HOME Clinic

Homeless Outreach through Medical Education

HOME is a student run, bi-monthly clinic that serves the homeless community of Fort Worth. Every aspect of HOME is student run, from planning to execution. Everything we do for the clinic is a labor of love and done with the needs of the community we serve in mind. We provide free health screenings and partner with other community agencies to provide additional services including HIV screenings, dental, and vision services. At each visit we also provide a variety of hygiene products for the men and women we serve and during the colder months we also offer scarves, hats, gloves, and socks.

Who do we serve?

HOME events serve homeless men, women, and occasionally children in the East Lancaster area of Fort Worth. East Lancaster is where the majority of the homeless shelters and outreach agencies that serve our community are located.

These clinics allow students the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of patients in the East Lancaster area and educate young doctors in training about the realities of homelessness.

When are events?

HOME is held twice a month.

How can I get involved?

If you would like to volunteer for an event you can sign up for a spot on OrgSync. The event sign up will be posted to the OrgSync MSGA page at 5:00 PM on the Sunday before the event. For events in the fall semester, all volunteer spots will only be available for second year students. Spots will be open to first year students once they pass their OSCE in late fall. There will typically be 5 spots for first years and 5 spots for second years, however this may vary depending on the capacity of our clinic location. There are always a limited number of spots for upperclassmen as well.

We are also delighted to announce that we have been incorporating other students from different schools at UNTHSC in an effort in promote inter-professional education.

If you would like more information, or would like to help in any other way please contact our head coordinator, Amy Owen, at Amy.Owen@my.unthsc.edu
