Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price presented a Resolution to UNT Health Science Center’s (UNTHSC) Center for Community Health on Tuesday, in recognition of the Dallas Cancer Disparities Community Coalition Breast Cancer Prevention Project, which has worked in various Dallas communities since 2007.

The CCH, part of UNTHSC’s Texas Prevention Institute, is involved in breast cancer prevention, research and educational programs targeting high-risk women in Dallas County.  Funding for this program was made possible by Grant #PP110190 from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).

Commissioner Price noted that “the concept of the TPI/CCH is cutting edge. It is clear that UNTHSC is deeply committed to improving our community’s health through innovative practices and dedicated employees.” Price noted that it seemed especially appropriate to recognize this work, and the resulting impact of the research project, given that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Dr. Richard Kurz, Dean of the School of Public Health (right), and Kim Linnear, CCH Associate Director (left), accepted the award on behalf of UNTHSC.
