Education and Training Core

The objectives of Training/Mentoring Core are:

1. To increase Underrepresented Minority undergraduate students in biomedical and minority health research

2. To increase Underrepresented Minority faculty in healthcare research

3. To increase Underrepresented Minority students in Ph.D. programs

STAR Fellowship Program

STARFellowship Program is a new and innovative program created by TCHD. It offers faculty from minority undergraduate institutions a full year of collaborative training and interaction with faculty from the UNTHSC and other institutions, directed toward fostering Health Disparities Research Initiatives. Ten faculty members are selected each year to join the STAR Fellowship Program each year, while maintaining their regular faculty positions.

URM Students Research Programs

UNTHSC has been successful in training Underrepresented Minority (URM) undergraduate student in biomedical research during summer months as part of the McNair, SMART and HBCU Summer Training Program in Prostate Cancer programs. TCHD enhances these activities and focuses on increasing the opportunities for URM students to enter biomedical Ph.D. programs in health disparity research areas.
