Jean Tips

Jean Tips is responsible for all aspects of promoting and protecting UNTHSC’s image and reputation. As head of the Office of Communications and Marketing, she oversees media relations, internal communications, news and publications, social media, advertising, brand management, marketing collateral, web content, and event-based marketing.

Tips joined the Health Science Center in 2005 from Kaiser Permanente, where she was National Director of Communications in its Oakland, Calif., headquarters. Prior to her national role, Tips served as a marketing project manager in Kaiser’s Northern California division, and manager of internal, member and external communications for Kaiser’s greater San Jose, Calif., business unit. Before joining Kaiser, she served as both Internal Communications Manager and Public Relations Manager for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, in Palo Alto, Calif.

Prior to entering the health care arena, she worked as a public relations director for several advertising agencies serving high technology and biotechnology companies. After graduation with Kappa Tau Alpha honors in Magazine Journalism from the University of Kansas, she was an editor for Runner’s World magazines and books and managing editor of California Farmer Magazine.

Tips serves on the boards of The Cowtown Marathon and Foundation for Wellness, Texas’ FitWorth Healthy City Initiative. She is a member of Women’s Policy Forum, the International Association of Business Communicators, Public Relations Society of America, and Leadership Fort Worth’s Class of 2007. In 2014, she was named a “Great Woman of Texas” by the Fort Worth Business Press.
