New - Lee Ann Braun, MPH has been involved in outcomes research and Phase 3 clinical research at Eli Lilly & Company for seven years. She was recently promoted to a research scientist role in molecular epidemiology.
2000
Nora (Santana) Heverly, MPH and David Heverly welcomed their first child, Raquel this past January 22, 2007. She was 7 lbs., 1oz., and 19.75 inches long.
2001
Roberto Cardarelli, DO, MPH, received more than $100,000 in additional funding from the National Institutes of Health for his research grant “Cardiovascular Disease, Perceived Discrimination, Social Support and Sense of Control.” Dr. Cardarelli is an assistant professor of family and community medicine at TCOM, and is executive director of the North Texas Primary Care Practice-Based Research Network.
Huiling Zhang, MPH, works for Tenet Healthcare Corp. as senior director of biostatistics and clinical analysis. She is involved with outcome evaluation and performance improvement for more than 60 hospitals nationwide. She works with national initiatives in the public reporting of hospital quality data as well as the pay-for-performance initiative of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. She is also the proud mother of 3-year-old twin boys.

Marcus Martin PhD, MPA, MA, has been appointed President and CEO of Education is Freedom (EIF), a national non-profit organization founded in 2002 on the belief that "every young person deserves the chance for a higher education." EIF removes the economic obstacles to higher education by providing college scholarships to young people overlooked by traditional scholarship programs. Dr. Martin is currently on our SPH Alumni Society Board as Past President.
Don Michael, MPH is a captain and public health officer in the U.S. Air Force, responsible for disease surveillance and outbreak investigation, medical intelligence, food safety, entomology, occupational health and medical readiness. He's stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Amber Salter, MPH won the Best Poster Presentation by a Young Researcher from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her subject: neurodegeneration of the retina in multiple sclerosis patients.
Kyla Hagan, MPH is an epidemiologist with the Alaska Native Epidemiology Center, one of eleven tribal epidemiology centers established by the Indian Health Service.
Khiya Marshall, MPH, DrPH is an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) reserach fellow in the Prevention Research Branch of the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention in the National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Research & Prevention, in Atlanta, GA. ORISE is a U.S. Department of Energy Institute that focuses on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, asses environmental clean-up, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness, and educate the next generation of scientists.

Allen Applegate, MPH in October of 2007 entered Federal Service at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families in Dallas, Region VI. At the agency he is serving as Regional Emergency Management Specialist coordinated preparedness planning for human services planning and delivery in a disaster.
